Journey 8 · The present directionStarGarden Fabric: carrying the foundation into wider workFabric extends our thinking about people and responsibility into wider work. Start with one controlled process and agree which capabilities, configuration and testing its delivery requires.Retrospective · Written 8 October 2026The question remains the sameThe broader direction of StarGarden Fabric grows from our HR experience: who can do what as the organisation evolves? The context extends beyond an employee record to the relationships between people, positions, roles, qualifications, authority and the work that needs to be done.Explicit rules in working softwareThe system is implemented through software, maintained data and configured rules. A task can have defined requirements and dependencies. An authority grant can have scope and dates. A person’s current assignments and qualifications can provide relevant context. The value comes from expressing these distinctions in the application and testing how they behave.A clearer view of workThe wider design explores required work, work that can be prepared ahead of time, and work a person may initiate. Treat this distinction as a concept until Product confirms its release status. In any demonstration, show the behaviour supported by the selected build. Seeing a task remains separate from having authority to approve it.Grow through demonstrated outcomesA wider model needs focused delivery. Existing HR and payroll capability remains central, while new operational scenarios need their own scope, configuration and evidence. We favour starting with one process and proving how its participants, rules and handoffs work. That keeps the journey grounded in the same practical discipline that shaped it: dependable records, clear responsibilities and code that people can inspect, maintain and improve.
