Connect training activity with employee skill records

Booking a course, completing it and recording the resulting skill are different events. HR needs to keep those distinctions visible.

Follow the employee through the course

StarGarden’s Extended HR guide describes course inventories, schedules and employee enrolment. Employee course records track whether a course has been requested, is being taken or has been completed. Course status definitions can also distinguish completion, a required retest and a recommendation.

Define what completion contributes

The documented course setup can associate skills with a course, include a skill level and identify whether a skill expires. Where skill transfer is requested, course completion can transfer the associated skills to the employee record. That makes the relationship between training and the HR record explicit.

Keep qualifications and authority separate

A course record helps explain what an employee has learned. Permission to perform or approve a particular task needs its own organisational context. A useful demonstration should show how your training records are maintained and how your organisation separately determines who may do the work.

Start with a real training requirement

Choose a course that matters to your operation and ask to see the inventory, schedule, employee status and resulting skill record. Discuss the fields and review responsibilities your team needs. The value is an HR record that supports practical decisions as people develop and responsibilities change.
